ProjectsScientific innovation is the key to the future. Any language in which such innovation is nurtured and communicated will have a competitive advantage in tomorrow's world. The future of Igbo language is dependent on the ability of its custodians to make it relevant in the innovation process or the life of the drivers. We believe that it is imperative to use science and technology to develop and preserve Igbo language and culture. We also believe that it is equally important to develop the science and technology in Igbo culture. The team at Igbo911 are at the cutting edge of developing resources to achieve these twin objectives. At any given time we are busy on many fronts with projects that are at different stages of completion. Currently the projects we are working on include: Comparative Igbo Bible Project: The comparative Igbo New Testament Bible provides a parallel comparison of the English New International version of the Bible and the New Igbo Translation (Bible Nso Ohuu) as well as the Dramatized audio New Testament in the Union Igbo Version. Plant Project: In this segment we will capture and portray the plants that are indigenous to Igbo land. We will also explore their Anatomy as well as the Pharmaceutical, Bio medical and Economic significance of these natural resources in the day to day life of our fore fathers and contemporary inhabitants of Igbo land. Rediscovering, researching and developing the alternative biomedical, meteorological practices of our forefathers and potentials of Igbo land will surely attract renewed interest in the Igbo culture and civilization. Dialectical Lexicon and Audio Translator: :In the past renowned Igbo slaves, Christian missionaries and in recent times Igbo scholars have laboured to standardize Igbo language. Despite the progress that has been made, the dream of preserving the beauty in our diverse dialects has remained illusive to Ndi Igbo globally. As English language evolved into several brands like British, American, Canadian, Pidgin etc, Igbo Language evolved as the migrant forefathers explored and conquered new frontiers in the virgin tropical rain forest that now constitutes Igbo land.............. Text to Speech Project: We have been able to identify over two thousand distinct sounds that are associated with Igbo Language. Our goal is to use this to develop a text to speech program that will read out text in Igbo language as well as any other tonal language. Numeral : Our goal in this project is to capture the numerals from one to one hundred thousand in as many Igbo dialects as possible. We have uploaded to our dialectical lexicon the Igbo rendition of the numerals from one to ten thousand in Central Igbo as well as Igbo911 the Ufuma rendition is in progress. Basic Science Project: In this segment we want to translate scientific terminologies in to Igbo language. Starting from the wealth of data collected from the diverse dialects we hope to make up with short and easy to use igbonized rendition of those terminologies that have no Igbo equivalent. We have chosen to approach the challenge on a subject by subject basis. The Anatomy and Lexicon of Bio medical Terminology segment demonstrates some of the effort we have made and at the same time reveals the enormity of the challenge. Tone Marking: Igbo is a tonal language hence tone is an integral part of the meaning of every word and sentence even when they spell or look alike. Generally in Igbo language, a low tonal prefix vowel, N or M in the first word of a sentence is usually indicative of a question where as a high tonal prefix vowel, N or M precedes an affirmative statement. There are also a lot of synonyms in which case the words will spell and sound alike but mean different things in the same or different dialects.
Animated Cartoon Project: Our goal here is to develop and create characters that will personify the famous characters of traditional Igbo folklore and literature. These characters depict the wise, heroic, gallant and skilful persona for which ndi Igbo are known. Multi Dialectical Dictionary Project: Igbo Language immersion: Provides a step by step guide on on how to make the most of the Igbo911 resource to learn how to speak and communicate in Igbo language. Grammar:: Explore Key parts of speech using "na" and "ka" as examples. Phonetics: Phonetics is a branch of linguistics that comprises the study of the sounds of human speech. It is concerned with the physical properties of speech sounds (phones): their physiological production, acoustic properties, auditory perception, and neurophysiological status. Phonology, on the other hand, is concerned with abstract, grammatical characterization of systems of sounds. (Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). From the over two thousand distinct sound that are used in formulating words in the various igbo dialects, the following common examples are by no means exhaustive but have been selected to introduce you to Igbo phonetics and phonology. |
